The way we work

Wild Time is good for you

Every day we see more and more evidence that shows how important Wild Time is for children to be at their most resourceful, creative, healthy and connected to the living world. Wild Time provides all of the vital tools to enable all children and young people to thrive in a world of rapid change. What’s more it’s not just kids that benefit, whole families, communities and schools are better when they are wilder.

The evidence also shows that most parents and teachers understand this and want more of it.

But here’s the rub, despite this mountain of evidence and awareness, action is low. Children spend less and less time outdoors, their freedom to roam within the community has dramatically reduced, schools find it harder to make it a part of their everyday rhythm and our children are less and less connected to their world around them.

So what is stopping us all from getting more Wild Time?

Over the last few years we have pulled together huge amounts of evidence that show that there are profound and systemic barriers in place that actively prevent us all from getting Wild Time. You can read about them here

We think it’s time to tackle these big, uncomfortable issues at the heart of this problem and offer real solutions to parents, carers, teachers and communities, with the ultimate beneficiaries being our future generations - children.

We work according to these guiding principles.

DOING NOT TALKING

It is no longer good enough to be just driving awareness of the benefits of Wild Time, or calling for change - we believe in providing the tools to encourage and support direct action.

COLLABORATIVE

These issues will never be solved by one organisation working alone. We work by bringing together multiple people and organisations together to find new ways of working and creating solutions

DIVERSE

We need a more diverse conversation. It is time for the unusual suspects and the hard to reach to have a voice and to bring in new, more challenging perspectives into the mix.

CREATIVE

All big ideas need a great story. We use all the tools at our disposal in order to cut through the competing pressures for attention. It means using great design, photography and the power of content to inspire action and reach new people and places.

WILD

We’re not about creating another big organisation that needs servicing. We are collective that thrives in the edgelands of this issue, working in between sectors, bringing them together where we can. Edges can be uncomfortable but change happens on the margins.
